Measles and Rubella are fast becoming the most severe ailments among children..They mar the body’s immunity leading to fatal conditions such as brain damage and leukaemia.. Surprisingly, 50% of these cases are found in India.
Lions always remain at the forefront of formulating strategies to ensure the development of a healthy society. The organisation stands firm with this commitment. It has been instrumental in the success of the nationwide Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccination Campaign, initiated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. . Millions of children are now clear of the deadly diseases. But, we recognise that a lot of work still needs to be done in India.
Recently Lions of Telangana pledged to support the Government’s Measles Rubella Vaccination Drive. Malla Reddy, the local MP launched the Measles Rubella Campaign by releasing a balloon into the sky in the city in a function held at St. Peters Public Schools, Bowenpally.
Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is also committed to the fight this deadly, but preventable disease. The Lions of Multiple District 316 in India recently received a US$150,000 grant to support their measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign. In August 2017, the campaign vaccinated millions of children between 9 months and 15 years of age across the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Lions have also embarked on a mission to curb this menace with other significant measures, including social advocacy. Members from local Lions Clubs have been holding sessions with school administrators and parents in order to educate them with the dire need of vaccinating children.
The aim is to prevent deaths occurring due to Measles and Rubella by boosting susceptibility of children to them.
